Long queues and ‘no cash’ signboards have became common in many parts as depositors are queued up to withdraw as much cash as possible in what is proving to create a mini panic. The RBI has clarified that the situation has risen due to logistical issues and there is no cash crunch in the country.
Many states like Delhi, Maharashtra, UP, Telgangana and Rajasthan among others have reported that ATMs are either not working or have no cash. Many on twitter, including Mamata banerjee and Sitaram Yechury, are saying that it is a reminder of the cash crunch situation after demonetisation was announced in November, 2016. Union Minister for Finance, Arun Jaitley, has tweeted that the problem is temporary because of ‘sudden and unusual increase’ in some areas and that there is more than adequate currency in circulation.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that cash crunch would ease out after December 30th as government will release new notes.
